Not easy to tell how this came about.

It is not often that we come across such a well made article of such ingenious design. "Quartermaster's Comment":- The story goes that the Italian Prisoner who made this very interesting cane, which as you can see neatly unscrews to provide a pen and a pencil, was interned at the Oribi Prisoner of War Camp in Pietermaritzburg, Natal after capture in North Africa. I hope that the photos do it justice. A great deal of effort has gone into producing a delightful artifact of a type that we have never seen before.
