A SILVER PLATED ON COPPER SUGAR BOWL.
Here we have a Sugar Bowl in nice condition that was supplied by a Johannesburg Silverware Dealer in the 1970's/80's.
The Bowl is neatly marked on the base with the Suppliers' Logo......EMESS and then S P ON C to indicate that it is Silver Plated over Copper. We are told that EMESS operated in the late 1970's and into the 1980's. They looked after the supply of Silver and Plate to the likes of Military Messes and better class hotels.
This item weighs in at around 280 grams. It measures some 16.5 cms across the handles and stands about 10.5 cms high.
"Quartermaster's Comment":- A bit of hearsay and gossip says that it once did service in the Sergeant Instructors Mess at the Krygbehoeftes Skool at Voortrekker Hooghte in the 80's......but please accept this as rumour.
A nice item of something South African!!!!!! |
