"THE CONFERENCE AT BLOCK DRIFT, KAFFIR LAND, January 30th, 1846"
The Conference was between the Lt. Governor Colonel Hare and The Kaffir Chief Sandilla, before the commencement of hostilities. Present are The Royal Artillery, The 7th Dragoon Guards, and the 91st (Argyllshire), also the Cape Mounted Rifles. "Quartermaster's Comment":- The original picture was painted by Henry Martens from a sketch done by Captain Carey Of the Cape Mounted Rifles. This print was published, 15th March, 1852 by Rudolph Ackermann at his Eclipse Sporting and Military Gallery, 191, Regent Street, and was reproduced by kind permission of the National Archives of Rhodesia. Sadly this lovely item has water damage but is still a fascinating bit of history.
