WINSTON CHARLES SMALE joined at the age of 16 as a scholar, He was born on the 4th of February 1925
If you take a look at the last listing......if it is still with us.......you will find that his father had set the example of joining up for his King and Country. He had been in France with the 1st South African Infantry.
"Quartermaster's Comment":- Winston was persuaded to join the Army by way of the Physical Training Battalion. He was channeled into and Engineering Training and I see on the copies of his cards which come with his medals that he was posted to No 71 Air School at Sonderwater on the 11th of December of 1942.
His Number was 280877V......His Cards show the movement of his postings overseas.....Hence the Italy Star. His final address was given as 30, Currie Street, East London, Cape Province. His 39/45 Star, Italy Star, War Medal and Africa Service Medal were finally despatched to him on the 29th of April 1954.
