"Quartermaster's Comment":-  The 'V' and the 'M' stand for VERDIENSTE and MERIT. The Award of this Medal covered many areas. Mainly to Members of the South African Police or Reserve Police Force who in the discharge of their duties had rendered services of a particulaly meritorious or exemplary nature. It could be awarded to civilians who had worked with the Police. It was mostly given for Acts of Gallantry. A most attractive Award.
