THE SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE CROSS FOR BRAVERY; (PCF).
We have here a MINT Un-named Example of this RARE Medal. When in about 1966 this Decoration came to an end it was ordered that ALL un-issued examples be destroyed. Fortunately a collector was able to 'Capture' one and we can offer it here!! ONLY 65 of these Medals were issued in GOLD.
Instituted on the 5th of July 1963 and made retrospective to the 31st of May of 1961. This was the highest South African Police award for bravery. It was awarded only to members of the SAP who had in the performance of their duties or in the protecting or saving or endeveavouring to protect or save property or life, displayed conspicuous and exceptional bravery; or with skill and ingenuity performed a fearless act of self sacrifice whereby thay had lost or imperiled their own lives. The Post-Nominal Title is PCF; (Prae-fecturae Crux Fortitudinis).
"Quartermaster's Comment":- The design of the 1989 South African Cross for Bravery is identical to the 1963 issue; except that the loop suspension was changed to a straight bar. It was awarded in Three Grades.....This one in GOLD......then SILVER and then a Matt Silver.
A very nice example of this Decoration. |
