"Quartermaster's Comment":- Trooper CHARLES HARRY PHILLIPS is named to the WESTERN PROVINCE MOUNTED RIFLES on his Q.S.A. which only has the one clasp for CAPE COLONY. His Q.S.A. does have a couple of edge knocks.
He then got back into uniform when he attested on the 20th of October 1916 as No. 82 in the South African Native Labour Contingent. He served in both the United Kingdom and France. He was made up to Lt. on the 25th of May 1917 and later Captain.
