A researched trio from Boer War to died of Malaria/Tuberculosis in Port Elizabeth Provincial Hospital on 29/8.1918.
Arthur Bright from Port Elizabeth has his Queen's South Africa Medal impressed
8   PTE. A. BRIGHT. P. ELZBTH.T.G. With the Number 8, he must have been one of the early members of that Town Guard. We have two photostat pages of 4 cards for his participation in World War One. The First Card is stamped in respect of the deliverey of his War and Victory Medals. He did NOT qualify for a 1914/15 Star as he only joined the Colours on what looks like the 23rd of August 1916. His papers note him as M.T.2560 with the Rank of Driver in the Mech. Transport. S.A.S.C. He sailed for Dar-es-Salaam on the "INGOMA" on the 16th of September 1916, arriving on the 29th.
"Quartermaster"s Comment":- He was one of the many South Africans who went to East Africa and went down badly with malaria. He came back to Cape Town, disembarking on the 12th of March 1917. The Malaria had him on recup leave for three months but from then on he was in hospital until his death on the 28/8/18.
He is noted as having died at the Provincial Hospital at Port Elizabeth of Tuberculolsis, which might well have come in on top of the Malaria to finish him off.
