This is a VERY interesting item.....See the "Quartermaster's Comments":- Below.

This is the bayonet which was used by the British Army from that year and for some time therafter. "Quartermaster's Comment":- I am not a 'Fundi' on Bayonets but this one appears to be in very fair condition for its age, (See the photos) and does not seem to have ever been 'got at' with the surfaces over polished and otherwise dealt with. There is a ding in the brass at the section to the bottom of the scabbard but this could be sorted. This was the Bayonet as was used at the time of the Indian Mutiny and as carried by Sepoys at that time. One wonders what stories it could tell!!!! I get the impression that these items are getting a bit thinner on the ground.....we do not see too many of them out here in South Africa.
