A FRENCH GRAS BAYONET OF 1874 VINTAGE.
In this case the bayonet itself is in quite nice condition and as you can see from the photos has not be 'over dealt with', as is sometimes the case. The scabbard does have a few small dents....but nothing too serious....see the photos. "Quartermaster's Comment:- I notice that the number on the scabbard does not match the number on the hilt...was this always the case? I should imagine that over the years scabbards and blades might have found different partners!!! We have adjusted the price to allow for this.
I note a neatly stamped 'R' in an oval....could this be for the Rheims Foundry? to one side there is also what appears to be a scrolled 'G'...also in an an oval stamp.
