A BAYONET FOR AN AK 47 ASSAULT RIFLE.
This is a VERY interesting item.....See the "Quartermaster's Comments":- Below.
There is ONLY 'ONE" Marking on this weapon.......That is the No. 5998 which is stamped on the outside top of the scabbard.
"Quartermaster's Comment":- What follows........comment-wise.........MUST be accepted as good but strong "Hear-say and Gossip"!!!!!!.........BUT.......we are led to believe that this Bayonet was made at Lyttleton Engineering.......outside Pretoria.......back in the 1980's.
They were needed for South African "Special Forces" who were using AK 47's at that time.........Many of the lads found it to be their 'Preference' Weapon. This is a MINT example of the Bayonet so provided.........You can see why.......NO Marks or Maker's Name.........Just one number for the Quartermaster!!!!..........The Photo shows it off quite nicely........It weighs in at around 450 grams........and when the blade is in the scabbard measures some 325 mm long.........What more can I say.........A nice item.........Wish we had more. |
