SOUTH AFRICAN RAILWAYS POLICE, SPECIAL REGIONAL TASK FORCE.
This badge, which has been printed in 'Yellow' onto camouflage backing is an 'unworn' example of that as was used by the SPECIAL 'REGIONAL' TASKFORCE of the South African Railways Police. This Task Force, which came into being during 1980 was utilized in resolving 'hostage' situations in buildings, aeroplanes, trains, floating craft and buses as well as any other task as the Commissioner might direct,
"Quartermaster's Comment":- Until March of 1985 only the Commander and Instructors were 'Permanent' Members of the Force. The rest of the Unit being stationed in nearby regions. In March of 1985 the rest of the Unit was transferred to its base at Esselen Park near Kempton Park. They were bisbanded in 1986 and became part of the South African Police on the 1st. of October of that year. These Parachute Wings were sewn onto the shirt above the Left Breast Pocket. Michael tells me that this was a VERY tough UNIT. During the six month qualification course you HAD TO QUALIFY to wear these Wings. Failure to Qualify and you were OUT.
