SOUTH AFRICAN AIR FORCE TRACK SUIT BADGE FOR No. 1 SQUADRON.
No. 1 Squadron has quite a history. It was formed at Zwartkop Air Force Base in February of 1920. In the Second World War they did good service in East and North Africa; then in Sicily and Italy. They flew in combat during the South West African Border War.
"Quartermaster'a Comment":- Michael told me that what happened here was that to check that everone was fit....they went on a 50 kilometre run!!!! Those who came through got this patch to go on their tracksuits.....Hence the "FULL RUN" and the K 50....Not sure what the 09 was about.....Will someone out there send me an e-mail???? A nice little item for an Air Force which at one time was proud of its Efficiency and Track Record. Michael tells me that they flew Cheetahs in the later years.
