OUT OF UNIFORM LAPEL BADGE FOR THE SOUTH AFRICAN 24 SQUADRON.
E-mail
No. 24 Squadron was formed in 1941 and deployed to East Africa where they flew Hartbees and then Marylands. They moved to North Africa and were issued with Bostons. In 1943 they were introduced to Marauders. After World War Two they were disbanded but in 1951 they were reformed at Bloemspruit with Venturas and then Harvards. In the early 1970's they were issued with Impalas. As you can see from the photo, this Lapel Badge was worn by those who took pride in being members of or associated with this Squadron. Nicely finished in silver and black it depicts their motto, PER NOCTEM PER DIEM. "By Night and Day". "Quartermaster's Comment":- Michael tells me that these South African Air Force Squadron Lapel Badges have become so popular as collectors items that more modern updated copies have been made. This is an original and Michael tells me VERY difficult to find. See later where we list a less expensive modern/current version.
