This Unit was formed at Bloemfontein back in late 1978. The Badge is sometimes refered to as a "Tank Destroyer Badge"

Michael told me that he was quite convinced that this is a 'Breast Badge' and yet in Mike Evert's Book of Badges and Insignia to Special Forces; he describes it as being an ARM FLASH in Metal as worn by members of 44 Parachute Brigade's Tank Destroyers. Whatever......we do not come across it very often. It is a nice item.
