South African Military Intelligence Corps Cap Badge.
E-mail
This is a British Pattern as was adopted by South Africa in World War Two.

This is an early "CAST" Example as was made in Johannesburg in 1939/1940 as the War was getting into its stride. South Africa just did not have the capacity to make all its badge requirements at the Mint in Pretoria. Many, like this one, were cast locally in Johannesburg and sold at the likes of M.E.Stores.

"Quartermaster's Comment":- This one has been cast in Brass, (Will Polish up nicely), and has a Copper slide to the rear. See Owen No. 990. Here Colin Owen confirms that this badge, with its 'King's' Crown is a direct copy of the one as was used by the British Military Intelligence Corps. Not expense, even for a 'Pro Tem' South African Example. As it was not a huge unit, one does not come across this badge very often.
